Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, not only impresses with its Mediterranean climate and breathtaking landscapes, but also with the wonderful lifestyle it offers its residents and visitors.

With picturesque villages, endless sandy beaches and impressive mountain scenery, the island has something to suit every taste. Especially popular are the charming properties in breathtaking settings that allow you to enjoy life on Mallorca to the fullest – from traditional fincas in the interior to modern villas with sea views. Mallorca offers unique living opportunities in the midst of an incomparable natural backdrop to make the dream of a Mediterranean lifestyle come true. Buying a property in Mallorca is not only a safe investment, but also a unique lifestyle in an incomparable atmosphere.

But Mallorca has even more to offer: The island is a true paradise for outdoor lovers. Numerous leisure activities such as golfing, hiking, cycling, sailing, tennis and much more make it possible to actively experience the beauty of nature and explore Mallorca in a sporty way.

Golfing in Mallorca

With over twenty first-class golf courses, Mallorca is a true paradise for golfers and is one of the top regions in Europe. Thanks to the mild climate, you can play on the fantastic courses almost all year round, although an early start is recommended in the hot months of July and August. The highest density of golf courses can be found within a 20-kilometer radius of Palma, the island’s capital, where 15 of the 24 courses are located. There is also Golf de Andratx in the southwest, Vall d’Or in the southeast, five courses in the northeast and two clubs in the north of the island. The oldest golf course in Mallorca is Son Vida Golf, which was opened in 1964, originally as a 9-hole course. This classic course was inaugurated by Monaco’s Prince Rainier. Most golf courses have a driving range, offer professional instruction and have a pro store.

Hiking in Mallorca

Mallorca is an ideal place for walks and hikes – not only because of the mild climate, but also because of the diverse landscape, which offers suitable terrain for every fitness level. The north and northwest of the island in particular, including the Serra de Tramuntana, offer excellent hiking opportunities. Various books, maps and websites can help you find the best routes. Guided hikes offer the opportunity to meet like-minded people, perhaps even make new friends, and discover unknown paths. Good footwear is essential. Inexperienced mountain hikers are best advised to join experienced guides. Away from the mountains, there are also numerous hiking trails along the coast that invite you to cool off in the sea.

Cycling in Mallorca

With first-class roads, numerous officially signposted cycle routes for all levels of difficulty and a mild climate, Mallorca is an ideal destination for amateur cyclists. The island has also established itself as a top destination on the Mediterranean for almost all leading European cycling teams. But you don’t have to be a well-trained professional cyclist to enjoy recreational fun on two wheels. Cycling is fun regardless of age, whether alone or in a group, it gets you out into the fresh air and allows you to explore Mallorca’s diverse landscape in a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way. If you want to share the experience in company, you can turn to guided cycling tour providers or join one of the 170 or so registered cycling clubs on the Balearic Islands. In the main cycling season on Mallorca, from January to May and in September and October, there is a good chance of meeting like-minded people who have also discovered the joy of cycling.

Sailing on Mallorca

With the fresh sea breeze and the sun on your face, sailing is pure pleasure. There are sailing schools in almost all marinas on Mallorca, offering a variety of courses for children and adults in different boat classes. The Solaris Mediterranean Sailing School in the southwest of the island is approved by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and offers officially recognized sailing courses and qualifications. If you are still unsure, you can charter a skippered sailing boat for a day and explore the waters before deciding on a course. Captain Cook offers day charters on his Beneteau Océanis 46, and Captain Adriaan Simmers will not only show you a few tricks, but will also let you lend a hand if you feel like it.

Tennis on Mallorca

Anyone who takes a look at Rafael Nadal’s figure will immediately recognize that tennis is an excellent workout. This sport is particularly popular on Mallorca. There are tennis courts and clubs all over the island, the mild climate allows year-round outdoor training and there are numerous professional coaches. It is therefore not surprising that Mallorca has produced talents such as Rafa Nadal, Carlos Moya and former player Nuria Llagostera. The island is mainly played on hard and clay courts, while grass courts are rarer. Many facilities have floodlights, so you can switch to the cooler evening hours in the warmer months. Young players with big ambitions are in good hands at Rafael Nadal’s Tennis Academy.
